Waterside Arts Centre: To the Screen –

A free short course for young people in Trafford who want to learn more about film programming.

Creative Industries Trafford ran a free short course in February & March 2017 at the Waterside Arts Centre in Sale, exploring the different aspects of film programming – with a focus on animated shorts and features.

The course was for 16-25 year olds who live in Trafford who wanted to learn how to programme film events, meet leading film-makers, understand how to write about film and how animators bring characters to life.

Participants on the course worked together to programme and curate their very own mini-film festival at Waterside Arts Centre during April 2017.

Each session was facilitated by ex-Head of Development at Baby Cow and freelance producer, Ric Michael and included other special guest speakers such as world-renowned puppet maker, Barry Purves (Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks!, Peter Jackson’s King Kong), Michael Pierce of Cinema Nation and co-founder of the Altrincham-based puppetry studio Mackinnon & Saunders, Peter Saunders (Bob The Builder, Postman Pat and Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride).
